With profound sadness and gentle gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Roberta Shells, who departed this world peacefully on July 2, 2026, at the age of 89. She was lovingly cared for and surrounded by friends at O'Neill's Healthcare, where she spent her final days embracing the warmth of companionship and the joy of her favorite activities, her favorite being Bingo!
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 5, 1937, to James and Ruth Zajkowski, Roberta was the cherished daughter who grew up with her sister, the late Joanne Turk. With her passing, she reunites with her beloved parents and sister, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Roberta was a devoted mother to her children: Donald Bomba, Ronald (Linda) Bomba, Denise (Glenn) Bridges, Debra (John) Stein, and Susan Shells, each of whom she adored and held close to her heart. Her nurturing spirit extended to her nine grandchildren—Glenn (Becky) Bridges, Danielle (Sam) Johnston, Gabrielle (Jason) Connell, John (Bethany) Stein Jr., Daniel (Sara) Stein, Ronny Bomba, Brett Bomba, Jeremiah Bomba, and Josiah (Jordyn) Bomba. —and her ten great-grandchildren; Tyler, Aaron, Macy, Max, Harrison, Jackson, Madelyn, Jackson Paul, Mila and Leo, who brought her immense joy and pride. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and good friends who were touched by her kindness and love.
Throughout her life, Roberta was an active member of her community and faith. As a dedicated Catholic, she was a long-time parishioner of St. Francis de Sales and later St. Mathias. Her faith and compassion extended beyond the church as she, along with her daughter Susan, were involved at the Parma Animal Shelter, participating in numerous fundraisers to support the welfare of animals she held dear.
Roberta's life was filled with simple pleasures and vibrant activities. She found great delight in hosting family gatherings, with Thanksgiving being a particular favorite. She cherished the holidays and the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love. Her love for animals was evident in her walks with her grand-dogs, Lola and Maverick, who brought her endless joy.
She enjoyed dining out at restaurants and visiting wineries with her daughters and friends, savoring not just the flavors but the shared moments of connection. In her later years, she developed a sweet tooth, finding delight in trips to ice cream stores and indulging in desserts. Roberta was a loyal Indians (Guardians) baseball fan! So much so that most occasions she attended, you would see her wearing Indians clothing, etc. As a matter of fact, just this past Friday (7/3) she was honored at the Guardians baseball game. On the Jumbotron was written "In memory of..... Roberta Shells ....... Loyal Guardians fan!" The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at O'Neill Healthcare for their exceptional care and support.
In honor of Roberta's generosity and love for animals, donations in her memory may be made to the Parma Animal Shelter, a cause close to her heart.
Roberta's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and kindness. Her vibrant spirit and unwavering love will be forever cherished by all who had the privilege to know her. As we say goodbye, we hold her memory close, comforted by the knowledge that she now rests in peace, forever in our hearts.
Rest in peace, dear Roberta. You will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
