With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Luba Gawur after a brief illness. She leaves her sister Christine Terplak (Leonard) and friend Stephen Powell, as well as nephew Andrew, nieces Natalie Naylor (Jeff, deceased, 2024) with their children Lara and Hannah and Tanya Wagenhammer (Orry) along with their children Felix and Mikaela, family in US, Natalia Mycyk, Roman Nykolyshyn, Andrew Krucko in Australia, and family in Ukraine.
Luba was passionate about her beliefs. She loved nature and appreciated its beauty. She was thoughtful and giving and always found the perfect words to express her love. This followed into the eloquent poetry she wrote, especially focused on nature and on the war in Ukraine. Luba deeply cared about Ukraine and her family roots.
Luba held two Masters degrees and worked as a professional librarian in New York City and Cleveland. She also lived and worked in Prague and Kyiv before returning to Ohio where she spent many years caring for her aging parents.
Despite her fragile health, she was a strong advocate for herself and took positive steps to live a full active and healthy life.
Funeral Service on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew Ukrainian Catholic Church 7700 Hoertz Rd. Parma, OH 44134 followed by burial at St. Andrew Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Luba’s beliefs, donations can be made to cufoundation.ca to bring surgical care to civilians and veterans across Ukraine, a cause in which Luba deeply believed.
